I don’t think so. You will need extra liquid and I have no idea how much not to make rice mushy.

Cut into small pieces and use chicken thighs.

16 minutes is way too long for basmati rice. In that case, you need to cut chicken thighs into pieces. I recommend to follow my cooking instructions of 10 minutes pressure cooking time with quick release. If you do 5 minutes of pressure cooking time and 10 minutes of natural release that’s a total of 15 minutes pressure cooking time because rice keeps cooking under pressure while it’s naturally releasing.

The texture came out pretty mushy. Even though the recipe suggested 10 mins, I was worried about the chicken thighs (I put them in whole) not cooking to the right temperature so I adjusted. I will try this again but next time, I will significantly reduce the pressure cook time. Normally when I make basmati rice by itself, I do 5 mins of pressure cook and allow a natural release after 10 mins. So would it make sense to try something similar with this dish? The texture just didn’t work out this time.

Yes, I wouldn’t cook it longer to avoid overcooked rice. Chicken should be cooked then as well.
