In reply to Brian. Yes, you can use quinoa or buckwheat. But buy dark brown roasted buckwheat groats not raw pale green ones. You can find them in health food stores or on Amazon. You can see what it looks like in my buckwheat stir fry. I do make beef quinoa stew with quinoa instead of potatoes too. Lots of options. Hope this helps!

We love to make Homemade soups. However my Wife has celiac disease and Barley is a ( Nopers) can’t really think of a substitute. Any ideas ?

This soup was delicious. I used chicken stock, leftover chicken instead of beef, and cooked it in my IP. I really like hulled barley also and this is what I added.
Ate 2 small bowls for lunch. Will definitely make again.
